about

The 5th album and the first full-length work since 2011’s “Last Bus Home”, is a reflective and sometimes stark, emotional and personal collection of new songs from Edinburgh-born singer and songwriter Roy Henderson. The 10 songs (mostly written in Edinburgh) are a travelogue. From packing up, quitting the day job and moving from Scotland to France (“Gone”) and letting go of the past (“Where The Sadness Used To Be”), to making peace with his Grandfather’s decision to abandon his Scottish family and emigrate to Canada and which had profound effects (the achingly beautiful “Rosedale”). Along the way there’s songs about insomniac-overthinking (the rocky and harmony-laden “2am”) and an appeal to face your fears and let go of whatever is stopping you being what you want to be (The High Places) - Roy’s actual pathological fear of heights the obvious inspiration for the metaphor.

The album’s final track (“Home”) with it’s simple piano, bass and acoustic guitar accompaniment to a solitary vocal sums it all up simply,
“….wherever it takes you, the road doesn’t break you at all.
You travel the world, you meet the right girl and you fall.
And the pieces fall in place and the smile on you face says it all.
And that’s all”

The “right girl” in this case being “useful human”, wife and soulmate Hannah, a respected singer and writer in her own right, one half of their “Mount Juliet” duo and who adds vocal harmony to both the singalong love song, “Everything With You” and the title track. She also was largely responsible for the production and mastering of the album.
